Kalibo’s Bakhawan Eco Park is an internationally aclaimed community forest managed area that the UN’s FAO has gushed as exemplary in the whole of Asia and the Pacific. What used to be idle mud flats was reforested with mangroves in 1990 by Kalibo Save the Mangrove (KASAMA). In 2012, now at 200 hectares, this reforestation project is a model in the country.
For me, it was one of the best places I’ve been to during my trip in west and north Panay. Tranquil, lush and just beautiful. A good eco tourism destination.
